Don’t Ruin Your Trip! Pick Your Travel Type

by Haley

Travel broadens the mind and gives you a new and unique perspective of the world. Yet, in the same vein, humans are each unique. They like different things. Travelling is no different. If you want to travel, be it the world or a smaller area, you need to fill your experience with things which you love. If you don’t you could end up ruining your experience. Sure, there’s a fair argument for saying you should blend the travel types for an all-around experience but again, it depends on you. So, whether you’re travelling to Spain or somewhere more exotic, here are a few different niches you can focus on while travelling.

Nightlife

So you’re one for the clubs and pubs. The booze cruises, beach parties and bar crawls. If this is for you it pays to really focus on your research beforehand. There’s no use just picking a city you fancy and hoping for the best. Some places have better nightlife than others. An example would be the fabled ruin bars of Budapest or the dazzling lights of downtown Vegas. Do your research and you’ll avoid the tourist traps. It can also stop you from straying somewhere unsafe or hostile. If you’re in for a night of heavy drinking with pals preparing where you’re going beforehand can be a surefire way to avoid these nasty occurrences which plague tourists all too often. Some locals in certain cities really don’t like groups of drunk tourists. Keep an eye out for national bank holidays too and make sure your trip doesn’t overlap; it could mean many of the bars and hotspots are closed.

Outdoors

If you’d like the Australian outback, jungles of Belize or a trek through Icelandic wastes then this travel type is for you. This is undoubtedly one of the more dangerous travel types. Research is a must. If you’re one to focus on the outdoors during your travel then one of the keywords is respect. Respect your environment. Really think about how you can get the best out of your trip. There are Global Adventure Challenges to give a go or think about hiring a local guide to see the best of your environment. No one will know the area you want to explore better than the locals. You’ll be surprised too, sometimes you don’t need to stray too far from some of the biggest cities in the world to truly lose yourself in a beautiful country.

Culture

As a culture buff, you’ll want to be hitting the monuments and museums. Places of historical significance like churches, palaces and castles. Yet, there’s a fundamental mistake a lot of travellers make when thinking about culture. They go to the hotspots. Take Rome for example. A well-known hotspot for culture with its ancient architecture like the Colosseum and medieval marvels like the Vatican City. Yet, if you just went to Rome you’d be missing out on Florence. On Napoli and Milan. Broaden your mind and look just beyond the unknown. You might find some jewels you never thought you’d find.
